Audi Debut New RS4 Avant at IAA 2017

Frankfurt Were First To See Audi’s Newest Performance Estate Car

Audi have unveiled the new RS4 Avant at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. The new figurehead of the A4 range comes with an impressive 444BHP and 600Nm of torque (170Nm more than the previous model) from a 2.9 litre biturbo V6 engine. The new Audi RS4 Avant is priced at £61,625 and Audi say it “combines tremendous everyday usability with exceptional performance”.

Ever Since The Rs2 Audi Have Been Pushing The Limits Of Estate Cars

Audi has been well known for their fast estate cars ever since they invented the idea with the Audi RS2. The new Audi RS4 Avant continues that trend with 0-62 time of 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 155MPH (or 174MPH with the optional RS dynamic package). This is impressive for a car that weighs just under 1.8 tonnes. The new Audi RS4 Avant comes as standard with the Quattro all-wheel drive system, which teams with an 8-speed tiptronic gearbox to put the power down.

The Insane Option Lists Make A Return With The Audi RS4 Avant

Audi, as with a lot of German manufacturers, are well known for their extreme option lists and the new RS4 Avant is no different. Along with the previously mentioned RS Dynamic package, the RS4 Avant is available with RS sport suspension with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC), ceramic brakes and RS specific dynamic steering. Also available are RS specific 20 inch wheels and Matrix LED headlights. Even without these upgrades the RS4 Avant is still an impressive machine, sitting 7mm lower than the standard A4. The RS4 then is a much more aggressive, purposeful car.

A Motorsport Inspired Design Breaking The Limits On The Road

Audi say whilst designing the RS4 Avant, they took a lot of inspiration from motorsport, particularly the Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO. The large air inlets with their RS honeycomb pattern, the long single frame grill, and added Quattro lettering are instantly recognisable as an Audi RS car. The wheel arches are also 30mm wider than the standard A4 to accommodate the larger 19-inch wheels and brakes of the RS4 Avant. The RS4 sees a new rear diffuser insert, along with new oval tailpipes and the RS4 Avant exclusive roof edge spoiler. It all joins together to create what Audi calls a ‘distinctive look’.

An Interior Machine Gunned With Rs Badges

The interior wants to make sure you don’t forget you’re in an RS model. It has RS logos printed on everything, from the illuminated door-sill trims to the ‘flat bottomed RS leather multifunction sport steering wheel’. Audi have got the quality interior down to an art form. The interior is offered with numerous styling packages including gloss black, carbon with aluminium attachments, and carbon with black attachments. Styling cues are also taken from the rest of the car into the interior; the honeycomb pattern of the front grill is an optional pattern on the RS sport seats. The New Audi RS4 Avant comes as standard with the Audi virtual cockpit, which shows the driver specific displays of g-force, tyre pressures and torque statistics, all adorned with RS logos of course.
