Car washing is one of those jobs that you either love or hate. If you’re interested in cars then chances are that you will love washing your pride and joy. Soon you notice that not all car washing products are the same. Here we test the latest products from the guys in the know.
We used a cleaning kit from to see how good their products are. We are testing it on a dark coloured 2013 Range Rover Evoque. Take a look at some of the products we tested below:
Slick & Suds Concentrated Car Shampoo
Firstly, clean off the dirt before polishing the car. Car shampoo is often overlooked. It is the product you will use on your vehicle the most and can help protect the paintwork by removing dirt and allowing your wash mitt to glide effortlessly over the top.
The feels as it sounds. When mixed with water, it creates a lot of suds and feels like a lubricant has been applied to the car whilst washing off the dirt. Over time, it should help minimise the swirling effect of dirt being washed off.
The shampoo smells great and using this product by itself, I was impressed with how the car looked, once washed and rinsed off.
I am into car cleaning and have been for years but this was a new one to me. Apparently, iron particles can stick to your car over time and have degrading effects on your paintwork. The iron particles come from rail dust, brake dust, and industrial fallout. But how do you go about removing these safely from the surface?
Poorboy’s have developed a solution that breaks up, loosens and dissolves ferrous metals which can then be rinsed off.
I applied the spray to the car, left it for a couple of minutes then gently washed it in with a wash mitt. You could see the clear solution turn purple, indicating that the car had iron particles on the paintwork, that I was unaware of. Then I gave the car a once over, hosed it down thus thoroughly washing all the solution and particles off.
Poorboy’s Iron Remover can be used on all exterior painted surfaces, wheels, plastic and chrome.
Spray and Rinse Wheel Cleaner
Once the paintwork was clean, we turned our attention to the wheels. We tested the . The spray is designed to work on all clear coated, chrome and painted wheels. The idea is to spray on and rinse off. Can it be that simple?
I used the Spray and Rinse Wheel Cleaner on all four of the Range Rover’s black wheels and gave it a few minutes to work. When spraying the car, you will notice a potent citrus scent which smells nice. After a while, I sprayed the car with water to make sure all the dirt was removed.
I was very surprised that the wheels came away clean. I have never used a wheel cleaner that worked without any elbow grease before. This was a great help when cleaning those hard to reach areas of the wheels.
Bold ‘N” Bright Gel
One of the best car cleaning hacks of all time is dressing the car’s tyres to get them looking brand new again. However, some of these tyre dressings don’t last very long. We tested the Poorboy’s Bold ‘N’ Bright tyre gel.
The tyre dressing is a clear liquid that isn’t sticky or greasy like others on the market. It is a water-based product which makes it easy and safe to apply. I used an applicator pad to put the solution on the car. Instantly, you could see the tyre gel had a glossy shine to it like a new tyre. You can use more or less on the tyre depending on the look you are going for. After dressing the tyres, the car looked tip top and very clean.
Poorboys Black Hole Glaze
Now it’s time to get serious and take our paint finish to the next level. is used for filling light swirl marks and leaves a glossy sheen on the paintwork. It is designed for enhancing the gloss on black, red, and dark bodywork. They also offer which is designed for lighter coloured cars.
I applied the glaze to a clean, dry car using a microfibre cloth in a circular motion. I worked it into all the panels and once finished, I buffed the surface using a new cloth. The solution is easy to apply and work like a water-based polish. It doesn’t leave marks on the plastic or white dust when you take it off. The whole Range Rover was done in less than 15 minutes. The glaze gave the paintwork a satisfying sheen and I was very impressed with the result.
For car specialists, Poorboy’s offer a product called the It has been designed with perfectionists, professional detailers and body shops in mind. It uses no wax, silicone or UV protectant. So, what you are left with is a pure, versatile polish that can be used on paint, glass, plastic and headlight covers. I didn’t use this product on the whole car as I had just used the Black Hole glaze, but I did test it out on different surfaces of the car.
I was very impressed with how many different surfaces I could apply the polish to and once buffed, it left a remarkably clean finish despite little effort.
Natty’s Paste Wax
Poorboy’s make some of the best car waxes ever. I have used them for years. is one of the best. It is a special blend of Brazilian carnauba wax and includes a patented UV absorber.
I applied the wax to a dry car with a microfibre cloth in a circular motion. This was after I had used the Black Hole glaze. It was very soft and easy to apply. Once I had completed a panel, I would buff the surface down with a clean cloth. This is a pleasure and left each panel with a crystal sheen. You can get lots of coats out of each tub, and it leaves a solid protective layer on the paintwork.
For cleaning inside the car, Poorboy’s have created a product that can handle almost every surface. It can be used on leather, vinyl, rubber, plastic, tyres and other surfaces alike. Inside the Range Rover, I have lots of leather, metal and plastics to clean, so I set to work with the solution using a microfibre cloth.
I was very impressed with the results. Unlike most similar solutions, it has a nice matt finish with a very low gloss and isn’t greasy. So, rather than just making things look heavily polished, it makes them look brand new again.
