Maserati Pull Out All The Stops For The IAA Motor Show

Maserati Are Firing On All Cylinders For 2018 At The Iaa Frankfurt Motor Show

The recent IAA Frankfurt Motor show saw Maserati bring out a whole host of new options for its entire range. Taking the top billing was the newly restyled Maserati Ghibli 4-door saloon. The Ghibli is Maserati’s best selling car, since its 2013 introduction selling over 70,000 cars in over 70 countries. The new Ghibli also saw two new trim levels introduced to the Maserati range, Gran Lusso and Gran Sport. Both options are designed to celebrate Maserati’s history in two very different ways.

Two Very Different Approaches To The Same Car

The Gran Lusso is designed to celebrate the luxurious side of Maserati with an, “enhanced exterior finish and a luxurious interior with Ermenegildo Zegna silk upholstery”. Whereas the Gran Sport is designed to commemorate the more sporting side of Maserati’s history using more motorsport inspired exterior styling and interior contents. The newly revised Ghibli will also be the first Maserati to use electric power steering, which Maserati says: “improves the car’s handling and comfort, better supports the driving modes and enables the newly-introduced active functions of the Advanced Driving Assistance Systems.”

The Ghibli Can Practically Drive Itself At This Point

Some of these optional Advanced Driving Assistance Systems include Highway Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist and Traffic Sign recognition. All of these assistants Maserati say provide enhanced active safety, improved driving dynamics and an even more thrilling performance. The top of the range S and S Q4 models now deliver an impressive 430BHP and 580Nm of torque this gives the Ghibli a 0-62 time of 4.9 seconds with the S Q4 doing 0-62 quicker in 4.8 seconds thanks to its 4-wheel drive system.

Not To Be Left Out- The Rest Of The Range Also Received Updates

The Frankfurt Motor show also saw Maserati bring updates for its other cars, 4×4 SUV the Levante, 4-door flagship the Quattroporte and sports cars the Gran Turismo and Gran Cabrio. Known as the My18 series the Quattroporte and Levante saw similar additions to the Ghibli in the form of Electric power steering, which allows the updated Advanced Driving Assistance Systems to come to the cars. The Gran Turismo and Gran Cabrio appear to have been left out of the electric steering party, possibly to maintain their sporting prowess, as most enthusiastic drivers have been critical of EPS in the past. What the sporting twins do receive are slight updates to the aerodynamics and more power to the 4.7 litre V8 engine, 460BHP and 520Nm of torque to be precise. The Gran Turismo and Gran Cabrio also get a new infotainment system with 8.4-inch capacitive screens in the front seat headrests.

Many of the updates to the Maserati range for 2018 appear to be minor but bring more comforts for the driver. What do you think of Maserati’s 2018 range? Let us know in the comments.
